            "@value": "บทความนี้กล่าวถึง ประวัติการขุดคลองดำเนินสะดวก ซึ่งเป็นเส้นทางคมนาคมสำคัญทางน้ำที่เชื่อมต่อระหว่าง แม่น้ำท่าจีนและแม่น้ำแม่กลอง โดยเริ่มดำเนินการในช่วงปลายรัชสมัย พระบาทสมเด็จพระจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว (รัชกาลที่ 4) เพื่ออำนวยความสะดวกในการขนส่งสินค้าเกษตรเข้าสู่พระนครหลังจากมีการทำสนธิสัญญาเบาว์ริง คลองแห่งนี้มีความโดดเด่นที่ แนวคลองมีความตรง เป็นอย่างมากจนได้รับพระราชทานนามว่า \"ดำเนินสะดวก\" โดยมี สมเด็จเจ้าพระยาบรมมหาศรีสุริยวงศ์ (ช่วง บุนนาค) เป็นแม่กองในการควบคุมการก่อสร้างและร่วมออกทุนทรัพย์ส่วนใหญ่ในการขุด บริเวณริมคลองมีการปัก เสาหินบอกระยะทาง ซึ่งต่อมาได้กลายเป็นชื่อเรียกชุมชนต่าง ๆ และเป็นพื้นที่เกษตรกรรมที่อุดมสมบูรณ์ของชาวไทยและชาวจีนมาอย่างยาวนาน ปัจจุบันคลองดำเนินสะดวกยังคงทำหน้าที่เป็น เส้นเลือดใหญ่หล่อเลี้ยงชีวิต และเศรษฐกิจของผู้คนในพื้นที่จังหวัดสมุทรสาคร ราชบุรี และสมุทรสงครามสืบต่อมาจนถึงปัจจุบัน"
