Using Role-Playing Technique to Improve Comprehensive Ability in the History Course of Nursing Students

The objectives of this research were 1) to use role-playing technique to improve comprehensive ability in the History course of nursing students. 2) to compare students' comprehensive ability in the History course before and after the implementation base on role-playing technique. Through cluster random sampling, 30 students in the first-year nursing students from Weifang Nursing Vocational College,
Weifang City, China, in the second semester of academic year 2023. The research instruments involved 1) lesson plan based on role-playing technique and 2) comprehensive ability test of the History course. Data were statistically analyzed by mean, standard deviation, and t-test for dependent samples.
The results revealed the followings:
1. Using role-playing technique to improve comprehensive ability in the History course of nursing students. Researcher synthesized the role-playing technique for 4 steps: 1) Preparation stage, 2) Role-playing stage, 3) Discussion and reflection stage, 4) Summary stage to be used in developing lesson plans to improve comprehensive ability in the History course: 1) Paris Peace Conference, 2) French Revolution, and 3) Westernization movement. The data analyzed the quality of the
lesson plans by 3 experts, the results shown overall were the most suitable. After 30 nursing students have learned by using role-playing technique the average score before learning was 24.77, the average score after learning was 37.30.

The comparison of students’ comprehensive ability in the History course score between before and after learning to use the role-playing technique of nursing students. The results were found that the comprehensive ability in the History course score of students after learning is higher than before learning statistically significant at the level .01. It showed that, after the implementation role-playing technique, the students' comprehensive ability in the History course has been improved obviously.
